If you are searching for cheap new laptops then there are a few pointers we can give you to make sure that you are getting the best computer for your money. Shopping for a new laptop should be something you do armed with the right information.
Knowing what to look for when you are buying a laptop not only means that you will end up with a computer that will meet your needs but also save you money. Why spend out money you don't need to for features that you will never use, wouldn't it be better for you to spend that money on the features you will use or even better keep the money yourself and still end up with one of the best new laptops.
One thing many people do not realise is that there is no one single laptop that is the best. Sure you could spend nearly £2000 and get an all singing all dancing machine but you would probably only ever use 10% of its capabilities. Why not get one that is a lot cheaper and does exactly what you want it to do without it being slower or not have the features that you need.
So what are the features that you need to look for in your computer. When buying a new computer it is better to be informed about what you are going to buy. If you know what to look for it is less likely you are going to get ripped off, this is one of the reasons I recommend that you buy online rather than in a high street shop. Firstly in a high street shop you will end up spending more than you need because the products will be more expensive in the first place and the salesman will get you to buy a more expensive model that you do not need.
The Ram or memory in any computer can make a significant contribution to the speed at which it will work. Look for something with 3 or 4GB (gigabytes), you should not really need anything larger than this and it will give you good performance for the cost. The lower the amount of Ram measured in GB the cheaper it will be but it would be a false economy to skimp in this area.
The hard disk storage is where all your programs, documents, pictures, videos and so on will be stored. If you are going to be using your laptop for the standard things such as emails, surfing the web and chatting to friends and relatives online then you can quite comfortably have more than ample storage with 100GB (gigabytes) of hard disk capacity. There are many laptops with up to 1000GB of storage but you will most likely never use it so getting a lower amount will save you money and will not affect the speed of your PC.
With screen size bigger is always better, this is why I do not recommend getting one of those netbooks with only a 10 inch screen unless you have 20/20 vision. The larger the screen you can afford the better off you will be in the long run as you will not have to strain to see what is on the screen. Get a 17 inch screen if you can afford it, especially if you have less than perfect eyesight, you will be kicking yourself if you get too small a screen and regret it later as you will not be able to upgrade the screen size like you can the Ram or Hard disk storage.
These days you can pretty much ignore the speed of the computer which is usually measures in GHz (gigahertz), the higher the number generally the faster. The reason for this is that even the most basic laptops will run fast and the difference between the slowest and the fastest will not be that noticeable for most people. This means that you can get away with getting one of the cheaper laptops, save yourself some money and not even notice the difference in how fast your new laptop works from a much more expensive one. The exception to this rule is if you are considering buying a netbook as they tend to run a lot slower than a full size laptop.
If you are looking at cheap new laptops then you will more than likely be buying a laptop running Windows 7 . You can go for an Apple laptop but it will be significantly more expensive.
Don't be put off by the technical terms that are used for the specifications of laptops such as ram, hard disk drive and the clock rate which is how they measure the computers speed. There is not need to understand the ins and outs of these terms but just be aware of what the numbers are so it makes it easier to compare to get the cheapest laptop for your money.
